She won two writing awards in elementary school.  She went on to hone her craft by starting on a novel her 10th grade year. During her years in high school she competed annually in the Impromptu Speaking competition in FBLA (Future Business Leaders Association) . She joined the Army Reserves fresh out of high school and once training was complete pursued a degree at Clark Atlanta University. She planned to use her passion for reading, writing and her love of being in the public eye to her advantage by majoring in Public Relations. During her time at Clark Atlanta, she had to answer the call of duty and was deployed to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom II.  After taking some time off to have her daughter, she re-enrolled in Clark Atlanta and completed her course load for her major. During that time she worked with Non-profit organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters and ITLA (In the Life Atlanta) a Non-profit organization for those who live alternative life styles.  In 2009, she re-enlisted into the Army as an active duty soldier.
